When is the best time to move to Canada?
Relocation companies are jampacked during the summer season, specifically Mid May through September Mid. In all these months, the volume of the shipment is very heavy. If you are planning to relocate any other time in the summer season, you would likely get more flexibility in your moving dates. While scheduling your relocation to or from Canada, try to be a bit flexible with your move dates, at least giving 5 days window for loading your shipment, if possible. Do remember that by staying flexible, you could make your move with less stress.
When should I start contacting moving companies for relocation quotes?
Ideally, begin your move at least 8 weeks outside your desired moving dates. If it is not possible try as much time as possible in between scheduling your estimates and the date on which you want to move. If you are obligated by your company for the submission of your moving estimate for approval, kindly allow for more time. You can shorten this time frame if moving in the off-peak season which is September 15 through May 15.
How is the cost of my shipment calculated?
For your long-distance or interstate move, the cost of your shipment is based on the volume of your shipment and mileage. These charges are otherwise known as transportation charges. Ask your relocation consultant to explain all the various charges on your documentation. These various charges can include packing, crating, valuation protection, extra labour and bulky article charges for oversized items.
Can I pack and move my plants?
Most of the moving companies will not take your plants. The stress and heat of being inside of the moving trailer usually cause them to die. If you are moving to Canada, be sure to understand your state regulations regarding plants before moving the plant to our carrier.
What should I do with my jewelry and other valuable items?
High-value or irreplaceable items such as jewelery, money, antiques, stamp collections and other collectables can be included in your shipment, but you must notify your personal move coordinator of these items before packing and move day. However, we strongly recommend that you carry high-value items with you or make other arrangements for their transport. In the relocation industry, make sure a claim involving these articles is not limited to minimal liability.
How do I Prepare my electrical appliance for moving?
Disconnect washers, dryers and refrigerators, and install a stabilizer in the washer. Your coordinator will help you understand how these items are serviced as well as provide you with local service providers to assist you with these items.
How do I file and receive my claim settlement?
Although we do everything in our power to ensure no damage or loss occurs, sometimes damage or loss will indeed happen. If you need to file a claim for your damage, first of all try to understand the claims settlement procedure before moving. You must understand your coverage and how to proceed through the claim process. Approach claims settlers with kindness, not anger. Claim adjusters have a difficult job, and no one wants to have to deal with these unpleasant and unfortunate problems. Understand your coverage and have the proper documentation (your inventory form with the damage noted).
