When Is the Best Time to Move to Canada?
Relocation companies are jam-packed during the summer season, specifically from mid-May through mid-September. During these months, shipment volumes are very high. If you plan to relocate at another time during the summer season, you are likely to have more flexibility with your moving dates. While scheduling your relocation to or from Canada, try to remain flexible with your move dates by allowing at least a five-day window for loading your shipment, if possible. Remember, staying flexible can help make your move smoother and far less stressful.
When should I start contacting moving companies for relocation quotes?
Ideally, you should begin contacting moving companies at least 8 weeks before your desired moving date. If that is not possible, try to allow as much time as you can between scheduling your estimates and your planned move date. If your company requires submission of moving estimates for approval, it is advisable to allow additional time. This timeframe can be shortened if you are moving during the off-peak season, which typically runs from September 15 through May 15.
How is the cost of my shipment calculated?
For long-distance or interstate moves, the cost of your shipment is calculated based on the volume of your belongings and the distance travelled. These are commonly referred to as transportation charges. Your relocation consultant can explain all applicable charges listed in your documentation. Additional charges may include packing, crating, valuation protection, extra labour, and bulky article fees for oversized items.
Can I pack and move my plants?
Most moving companies will not transport plants. The stress and heat inside a moving trailer often cause plants to deteriorate or die. If you are moving to Canada, be sure to understand the provincial and federal regulations regarding plants before attempting to move them with your carrier.
What should I do with my jewelry and other valuable items?
High-value or irreplaceable items such as jewellery, cash, antiques, stamp collections, and other collectibles can be included in your shipment; however, you must inform your personal move coordinator about these items before packing and moving day. That said, we strongly recommend carrying high-value items with you or making alternative arrangements for their transportation. In the relocation industry, claims involving such articles are often subject to limited liability, so it is important to plan accordingly.
How do I Prepare my electrical appliance for moving?
Disconnect washers, dryers and refrigerators, and install a stabilizer in the washer. Your coordinator will help you understand how these items are serviced as well as provide you with local service providers to assist you with these items.
How do I file and receive my claim settlement?
Although we take every possible measure to prevent damage or loss, unforeseen situations may still occur. If you need to file a claim, it is important to familiarise yourself with the claims settlement procedure before your move. Make sure you clearly understand your coverage and the steps involved in the claims process. When interacting with claims representatives, approach the situation calmly and professionally. Claims adjusters handle complex cases, and respectful communication helps the process move smoothly. Ensure you have the necessary documentation ready, including your inventory form with any damage clearly noted.
